Okay all my new web friends, realtors included. I need some advise.
My new house closes on April 12th. My agent said if I couldn't be there, he will do it for me proxy.
My question is this: Should I spend the $325 in airfare, plus car rental and hotel to fly back and be there for closing??? It also uses up some of my vacation. Are there important things that I should be there for at the closing???
Part of me wants to go, because..., heck, because I want to see my new town and my new home again
Is it wise though?? Is it something that I should really be there for, or can the real estate agent handle it???
Please advise.
Hi again Liz~~I'm glad you asked this question, because I'm in exactly the same dilema...I close Apr 30th, do I stay or do I go??? I don't want to spend the $$$, nor do I want to use my vac. time...but I want to see my new house too??? Can't wait to hear other's opinions on this.! BTW, where did you buy??

Raleigh. Well.... the physical address is Raleigh, but really it is right next to Willow Spring and Clayton. Where did you buy???
Tell me what you decide about going back for the closing.....
Liz
your a scrapping buddie, right?? We'll have to figure out our distance so we can get together ASAP to scrap!...Ok, on the other note, my plan is to go for the closing, as it stands right now. My realtor told me that one of us should be there...although I will miss the inspection & walk-thru...I don't know what the big deal is...but I guess I wouldn't want anybody signing on my mortgage, except maybe an attorney, and not knowing anyone like that....I'll probably go & bite the bullett! Keep me posted what you will do! BTW, we bought in Raleigh also, we are in NE Raleigh, i think....off of Forestville Road. I have no clue how close we are>

I think we are way, way far apart, but I don't care, I will drive to scrapbook
Nah, don't go. It won't be the same without your husband there anyway.
All this paperwork can be done by mail. From the seller's standpoint, the paperwork is easy but the buyer's paperwork is different, so ask your agent. I'm sure you can work it out long distance.
I didn't attend the closing when I sold my house, but I did fly in for the purchase of my house in Apex. I wanted to be there for the walkthrough and all of that. It never occurred to me to miss it - don't you have to sign all your own loan paperwork?
When I sold my house back in VA a few months later, it didn't seem worth it to attend. The seller only has to sign a few things, and it wasn't worth a $300+ airline ticket for that.

Do you trust your agent (rhetorical question - ) Is someone trustworthy going to sign-off on the final walk through / inspection? If yes, and there's no little voice saying "you better go" - stay home and use the time for when you get here. Besides, there's really good medicine for those voices....
