Depends on what you want and where you're working. It's a hike from RTP (30-40 mins. or more w/ traffic), and the outskirts are still not "refined." The schools are less than stellar, but still great compared to a lot of the country.

The actual strip down 64 Business has built up nicely, couple Wal-Marts, a Target, eateries, etc.

It's also fairly cheap housing compared to other areas around Raleigh, which is a plus.

Still, not a bad town at all

What areas of Northern Raleigh are nice then? I know Cary, Apex, etc. are good...but I think they are too far from where my husband would be working. Thanks for your help!

Most areas of North Raleigh are nice....it's harder to find a truely bad neighborhood....just maybe a few that don't meet your needs.

Where is he working? There is always Wakefield and Wake Forest, the areas off Six Forks are nice.....there are good areas closer to the Beltline.

Also see. The booming North East Raleigh area that borders Wake Forest and Rolesville is also great and housing is a bit cheaper there are amenities are just now starting to catch up. Find a map and look at the area inbetween Ligon Mill & Mitchell Mill roads and north of that around burlington mills and forestville roads. See Highland Park Subdivision by Centex which will offer townhomes and houses from 180's up to over 500,000 construction is now underway.

Most likely he'll be working in the Millbrook area. We definitely want to live in a safe area and I'd also love to be somewhere with a lot of trees. We should be comming out next month to check it out. What areas of Raleigh would you want to avoid?
