Watkin's Grill on Old Wake Forest Road is very old school and very good imo.
For those who might go up and down Old Wake Forest Road looking for it, it might be easier to tell people to take Atlantic Ave South until you get to the Capital Blvd area. There you will find Watkins. It's sort of in that no man land that is neither Old Wake Forest Rd. south of Capital nor Old Wake Forest North of Capital.
I second recommendation for Finch's Dinner on Peace next to Capital. But, beware, it's NOTHING fancy. In fact, some might be turned off by it and call it a dump. But, I just love how the waitresses call me "sugar" and "hon". It's a very old school ITB breakfast place.
I look forward to try Gateway! Thanks for that tip.
This is a great thread. We've been to almost all the breakfast places in Chapel Hill so now I know where to go when we want to have breakfast in Raleigh.

My favorite place was Citrus in Southern Village. But that place closed down.
Weaver Street Market has a great buffet breakfast and you can eat outside which is great in this weather. It is close to the Farmer's Market so we go there first then eat at Weaver Street.
johnnys We were here last Saturday and it was very cool. It was so unlike anything we ever experienced back in MA. Great coffee and pastries, a crepe truck, chickens roaming, picnic tables and two guys playing a clarinet and accordian. I wish I'd taken photos.
For diner's, Sunny's Diner on Hwy 70 by Ebeneezer Church rd. Small family owned place and the food is consistently perfect.
For something a bit more refined, Sunday Brunch at Michael Dean's on Falls of the Neuse.. They have a big buffet with things like shrimp and grits, custom omelet station with tons of ingredient choices(I recommend using Havarti for your cheese), french toast, pancakes, and waffles made to order with all kinds of specialties like Almond Joy with chocolate and coconut. It isn't a cheap breakfast but we love going there once in a while.
Zest Cafe in North Raleigh @ the intersection of Six Forks & Strickland is GREAT. I also second the recommendation for the state Farmer's Market restaurant. Just be prepared for a little bit of a wait there if you go at peak breakfast times. It's worth the wait though & they just refurbished it a few months ago and added nice outdoor seating.
