We're looking for living room furniture -overall fairly casual for an open floor plan room in our house. We need a couch for sure and possibly a chair or loveseat as well. Where would be the best places to check out that aren't going to be too pushy and are reasonably priced?

Roomstore? They're reasonably priced...not Thomasville quality, but I like their styles.

There are several mass merchant furniture stores on Glenwood Avenue in northwest Raleigh.

We checked out just about all of those places on Glenwood Ave, and were very happy with Haverty's, where we bought a sectional and leather ottoman. Haverty's is definitely a step or two above the cheaper furniture places, but far from the most high-priced places. I'd describe it as solid middle-of-the-road stuff that we've been very happy with so far.

We purchased our family room furniture at Lazboy - a great leather couch at a great price. Also purchased a great slipcovered love seat and chair combo at Rooms to Go. Very comfortable and 3 years later I am still pleased with them. They look as good today as when I purchased them.

Both locations are on Glenwood Ave.

HomeComfort Furniture - there is one in Cary on Kildaire Farm Road and one in Raleigh on Glenwood Ave. Great stuff and they can deliver same day in most cases!

Good luck!

I'll second Haverty's. We got a fantastic deal on an entertainment center floor model. Had a few nicks and scratches, but with a ten-month-old in the house, whatever we got was going to pick them up sooner or later.

We've also had luck at Heavner...a bit more chaotic, but you can find some good deals if you're willing to hunt around on the floor.

I'd say more like "lots" - IMO best bet by far is to drive up and down there (between Crabtree Mall and 540, roughly) and scope em out.

Rolesville furniture is a good place. Don't look for a fancy showroom but name brand furniture at reduced prices.

We love Haverty's and Lazy Boy too. I used to think Lazy Boys was really outdated, but after a recent trip over there looking for something specific, I was plesantly surprised at their selection and their stuff is REALLY comfortable!
