I am 25 years old and will be relocating to the raleigh area in August. I currently live in Lincoln Park in Chicago, IL. I'm looking for an apartment that is close to nightlife, resturants, shopping ect. I have heard the brier has lots of young professionals. What about collegiate circle area? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

I would look into the Cameron Village area near downtown Raleigh.

My wife and I just bought a home on Glascock in the Lockwood subdivision in east Raleigh for the same price as renting our 1 bedroom apartment. It's two miles to the middle of downtown. If you're looking to rent, I'd look somewhere near Glenwood South.

By "the Brier" I presume you mean Brier Creek? That is pretty far outside of the city core but would be very convenient if you'll be working in RTP (Research Triangle Park). Where is your work? That will make a difference. Without knowing anything but your age and where you're coming from, I'd think you'd want to be near downtown Raleigh (this area has pathetic public transportation, certainly compared to somewhere like Chicago!) as most of the nightlife is within about a square mile, between Glenwood South and the Warehouse District.

You might look into Raleigh Apartments--very old but actually neat (in the "cool" sense) and roomy inside, and EXTREMELY convenient to both downtown and to Cameron Village, for grocery shopping, restaurants, etc.

Brier Creek has a lot of places to go to for night life, but I think inside the beltline around Cameron Village and Glenwood South would be a better option for you. I guess it depends on where you'll be working though.

Brier Creek is a bit opposite of Lincoln Park in age, feel, and walkability.

Isn't being so close to the Airport with the noise of planes a big turn off?

I've never heard Brier Creek called 'hip' before.
