I moved here from Florida 6 months ago (Thank God ) FLA has a large Jamaican/Carribean presence, so it took a while to adjust to Cary, NC. I am a doctor at Wakemed so the transition into the medical field here in NC was seamless, but at times I was missing my culture ...So I've heard about the less than great "Jamaican" cuisine in Raleigh, and I set out this past weekend to taste around Of course there were some duds but I found some REALLY great restaurants:

Golden Krust in Durham = DELICIOUS
Jerk Machine in Raleigh = Perfectly seasoned
Jamaica Marketplace = Restaurant/Supermarket...it's really awesome

Tell me what you think about these restaurants if you've dined there before! Oh, and The Beres Hammond is coming to Raleigh July 7! I already got my ticket!

NC is growing, so be patient! There will soon be more Jamaican/Carribean influence soon...You couldn't pay me to go back to FLA now! I go on vacation there and yuck! I'm glad I moved

I am Jamaican too (St. Elizabeth) and from NY so I am very familiar with Golden Krust which is a chain but pretty good. I have not tried the others but will do so soon...

Next time...

Can you tell me where Jerk Machine is, in Raleigh? Would love to go try it out.Read about the review that Greg Cox did on the Jamaican restaurant called Virgil's restaurant, and went to get lunch from there. Shady neighbourhood, the food was very average. The jerk chicken was ok, but the yellow rice that came with it was overcooked and bland. The cabbage just did not taste right. The owners were tremendously friendly though.I have always enjoyed the food at Jamaica Jamaica. The chef there personally serves the food espeically if you go to eat in during weekdays. I think their yellow rice is really good, there is variety. Their jerk chicken is awesome, with that sauce...yummm.Yes to go try Golden Krust, though a friend went there and raved about it.D

Seconding this request, only locations I can find listed online are in Florida.
