I am sitting out on my screen porch in the middle of the woods and I am seeing tons of fireflies tonight. If you get a chance, go spend some time outside on a beautiful night. With any luck we will start heating up and get more humid, so it will be much more comfortable out there and will be fun to watch the light show.
I have not seen a firefly this year.
I shall be on the lookout for those flys with fire in there bellies!
Makes you wonder what they eat to get indigestion like that?
I wonder if a Firefly mated with a dragonfly would its off spring be
a real fire breathing dragon....fly that is?

I saw fireflies on Wednesday evening while walking down Glenwood South to Helios for their weekly Bluegrass jam session. Was very happy to see them!
Unfortunately, we didn't have fireflies where I grew up, but we did have Fire Beetles: Fire Beetle or Cucujo (Pyrophorus noctilucus) - The Firefly Forest. They have two contstantly glowing eye spots and "click" themselves back over when they find themselves upside-down. The dog used to love to play with them! They only live in subtropical climates, so I don't think we have any here in the Triangle.
