New recycling carts are terrific. I found the lack of curbside recycling of chipboard appalling when I first moved here, so I'm thrilled to see that remedied...no more trips to the convenience center!

The biweekly pickup is less-than-ideal, as you have to remember which week it is every time you put out the garbage, but hopefully they'll eventually switch to weekly pickup as the recycling rate continues to climb. That's pretty much how it happened when we were in the Bay Area...had the bins, switched to carts with biweekly recycling pickup, then switched to weekly recycling pickup a year or so later.

It still annoys me that they won't allow you to recycle lids. Please allow me to use my own discretion...if the lid is clearly the same material as the rest of the container or labeled with a recycling number, I should be allowed to recycle it, as they can certainly handle it. I may just start doing that anyway.

I find it amusing in that "only in Cary" way that the carts are an unobtrusive brown color. Everywhere else I've lived they've been blue. But it makes sense...why make the things stand out more? I know where mine is.

We're having an enclosure built around the side of our house in which to store the carts, something we may very well have done anyway even without the switch from bins.

Anyone see the Penn and Teller Bull**** episode on recycling. It's all I could think of as you mentioned feeling guilty about not sorting.

We all got new bins with our next recycling pickup. (95 gallons is the same size as our trash bins). The person on the phone told me there would be a charge if I wanted to switch back, but I assured her I didn't think that was a worry.

And I love my new new recycling bin!
You know.... With just two of us, I don't know whether to feel very dutiful and conscientious or very guilty about filling the 65 gallon bin in two weeks..

Pictures? Just curious what to look forward to if this spreads to other 'towns'.

We immediately requested the larger can and received it. I like having the cart better. It would be perfect if they'd pick it up weekly though. That, to me, is the ONLY downside.

I'm just jealous that we don't have them in Raleigh where I live. We create much more recycling than we do trash each week.

This is definitely a step in the right direction.

Wake Forest has had them for several years now. Sounds like Cary is just catching up. Ours is picked up weekly however.

I love the rolling bin compared to the tote. Much easier, holds so much more (we often have more recyclables compared to garbage).

I would agree. I wish I had something to roll... We also try and recycle as much as possible so our recycling is often more than our weekly trash.

For those people complaining the small cart is too small, how many people live in your house. It's infrequent for us to fill either, the only time is if we are doing major work which creates waste, have a party or a lot of company.

I think there are 2 of us.
Cardboard and chipboard take some volume.

It is NOT all beer and wine bottles...
