Leaves on the trees can cause problems if you are driving in heavily wooded areas.

I actually saw a news story a while back about how many of the US satellites are becoming obsolete and need replacing.

That may not have much to do with why your Garmins and TomToms aren't working as well as before, but it's just a thought...

I too have a Garmin that can be tempermental.It often takes awhile to find the satellite coming down Eagle Trace.. I just thought it was the government checking out where I was going

I have a Garmin Nuvi 360 from June 2007, fully updated. Some days I will get frequent 'satellite reception lost', and then regain the signal, usually but not always moments later. This includes on 540 and other highways. Other days no problems at all. In November 2008, I could not get a signal at all for 3 days and was ready to stomp on it. I wonder if this is a signal strength issue and/or weather related? If I can't get a signal, I repeat this until I do (or become tired of it): flip open the back (antenna), wait 30 secs for signal, if no signal, close back. Usually this routine works. There is also a satellite detail screen where you can see progress finding the satellites. See also Tech Support, Manuals & Troubleshooting for Consumers for other ideas.
