On 98 between the HWY 50 exit and Wake Forest, about 2/3 up towards Wake Forest, is a small exposed hill right off of 98 - I and see people digging(with rock picks) all the time....does anyone know what they are digging for?? Should I go get a rock hammer and join them??
Just curious - must be something there worth digging for...
There is Garnet in that there hill! Prospectors from round these parts from Durham to Johnston County come to try their luck at pluckin a Garnet Jewel in the rough from that there hill! All one needs is a hammer and chisel and a keen Garnet eye (eye color is optional of coarse!)
So when you feel a bit blue why not go Garnet....grab that hammer, chisel, and bag to chip out a piece for you!
Note of caution! Rt 98 is very busy at times and cars go through that stretch in excess of 60 MPH so park and walk with great care, especially if you bring the young-ins! Ya' hear now!
