Hi everyone:

This is my first post here. I am moving to Raleigh in mid-July, and plan on settling in the Glenwood South area. I did a google search for some gyms in the neighborhood, but did not come up with much.

I work out in the mornings, around 6am, so I need a gym with compatible hours of operation. Ideally, I'd like to find something within walking distance of Glenwood, but this is not a "must."

Also, I primarily use free weights, so don't need all the extra amenities (e.g., stairmaster, classes, etc), but realize that they are included at most gyms, which is fine.

Finally, I don't mind paying extra for a better gym...as I am used to dues in the $50-100/month range.

Thanks.

I know Peak Fitness is in Glenwood South and has historically been open 24 hours. I know the company was having some issues, but not sure if they affected this location, which is very popular. There is also Seaboard Fitness at Seaboard station.

The YMCA on Hillsborough Street is the bomb. They tore down the old building and built a new one that's been completely finished for almost a year now. It has all the usual suspects + a pool, racketball, basketball, spinning, a barber, massages, aerobics, steam, sauna, etc. I know that they are open early. The monthly fee for a single member is reasonable. YMCA-Alexander Family YMCA-Membership
I live part time in Glenwood South and it's walkable by passing through a section of the Cameron Park neighborhood. It's not as close as Peak but it's much better. It will take you less than 10 minutes to walk there depending on where in Glenwood South you live.
I have been a member there since 1991 and highly recommend it.
