Are there any places in the area that sell these items at a discount price?

No.

You sometimes find them in an indivdual store in a shopping cart marked down.

Wow, that's surprising. We have a place here in FL called Harvest Time. It's a big warehouse that is operated by a church, I guess the local stores donate these items to them. In turn, you are giving a donation to support them. They have a little of everything from food to toiletries.

^^^^^^^^

what there are (not sure exactly where in Raleigh) are food banks where stores donate crsuhed, dented and things they can't sale or are close to or past fresh dates, that way they can write them off as charitable donations.

The churches then just give the stuff out for free.

I know food lions do this back home on the coast.

edit: you can also often find these items at flea malls

I think Big Lots and Ollie's Bargain Bin is kind of like that. There used to be a place in Mebane that I can't find anymore just off Hwy. 70. It didn't have a name, but was filled with lots of dented stuff at very cheap prices. Some cans were definitely damaged and I wondered why they were even on the shelves.

I shop at Big Lots. They have a few items that are a little discounted, but they aren't a big discount b/c they aren't the crushed boxes. etc.

Yeah, I think here most of that stuff goes to food bank or Interfaith food shuttle to be distributed to the "soup kitchens" and other meal providers. I see them picking up "day old" items at my Harris Teeter every morning.

Aldi's will also have discounted stuff, not crushed/dented cheap, but cheaper.

I see cart after cart of these items at Kroger. Usually one or two at Lowe's. My HT and FL have small racks for their scratch and dent items. You do have to hunt for them in some stores.
