I drove thru Apex again today, and was really shocked to see how many homes and apartment buildings used vinyl siding (55, Apex Peakway, etc). So cheap and junky looking, especially when it gets wavy and dirty. Why do they hide the quality Hardiplank neighborhoods behing these flimsy vinyl boxes. SUCH a shame.

Just another on the long list of reasons why, when it comes to locations in The Triangle....Raleigh Rules (as your username so accurately states).

FYI - You may want to get outside a little more. Raleigh has lots of cookie cutter vinyl homes too.

I have to laugh, when we moved here from LI we were looking for vinyl siding. Many million dollar homes on the island go for vinyl. New colors look great and it is maintance free. So we were hoping for it!

There's good vinyl and then there's crap vinyl. What the OP is referring to, especially the waves, is the crap vinyl that is preferred by a lot of the low-end tract builders. It really does look like junk. The good stuff is much thicker, fits together better, and does not have that problem. A quality vinyl siding product (and quality installation) can actually look very nice. As with a lot of things, you definitely get what you pay for!

Our neighborhood in Apex has mostly hardiplank and it's a starter neighborhood priced at 150,000 to 160,000. We all have crawl spaces too. Track builders didn't build in our neighborhood: Sugarland Run.
