Porter's and Fraziers are pretty good places. I go to Porter's at least once a month with coworkers. I love their burgers and tempura green beans. The fish tacos are pretty good too. I haven't been to Vivace. It's a little pricier. I hear from coworkers that it's a good spot to eat at.
I usually park in a pay lot behind NY pizza. The one hour parking on Hillsborough St. gets annoying. The parking pay lot lets me pay for 2-3 hours.
You should check out Busy Bee Cafe on Wilmington St sometime....great fried green tomatoes.
Yeah, Vivace is great. As is Coquettes and 115 Midtowne. I've always been impressed by friendliness of the staff at all three of these places when all three are usually 'hopping'.
Vivace is NOISY; if you are looking for a quiet relaxing dinner this is def not the place. However the food was good, yep very fru fru but of course that's fun once in a while.
We love Vivace and Coquette which is across just the street. Food is great, interesting menu choices. As noted by one poster it is not for the meat & potatoes diner.
I am not sure what one poster meant about being stingy with portions at both places, I have yet to find a better deal than at Coquette's (French style dining). My favorite Croque Madame; a HUGE Ham & Gruyere Cheese sandwich with a sunny-side egg on top with a salad on the side and a basket of fresh breads is only $7! For a full-service restaurant it can't be beat. Their quiche slices are sky high and as light as a souffle. They offer brunch on the weekends too.
I believe the chef for that company's line was featured in this last Sunday's (or Weekend section) paper.
Give it (or both) a try - we'll watch for your review!
It's way overrated. Had a cheese plate & panini sandwich, my friend had a pizzette. Panini was bland & disgusting. Pizzette was ok but nothing special. Service is good though but I'm not planning on coming back.
In my opinion, Vivace a great place for happy hour, as the drinks (especially the sangria) are wonderful. The pasta plates are also their specialties, so if you eat, I would stick to those. The atmosphere is what draws most people, as the patio is wonderful and makes you feel like you're in a small european city and not in a suburban shopping center
we've been to porter's and frazier's several times and coquette once, and we love all of them. vivace is on our list but we need to get there. busy bee cafe was also really good... surprisingly good, even.
for the talk of "fru fru" and "good deals" and "stingy portions," i just want to point out that some people view food as something to be complex, interesting, and tasty, not something to just fill you up like a big bowl of pasta. that's why gourmet food is small portions, and several courses. i'm not saying any of these restaurants except maybe Frazier's is "gourmet," but the same rules apply. i don't agree with the mentality of "i'm only paying for the quantity of food at a restaurant." that's why america is so fat, because people will go to Chili's and be full for 9.99. i don't mean this to be directed at anyone on here specifically, i just mean in general.
Oooo, Coquette is super yummy! Steak frites (and the frites are done in duck fat so they are amazing!) goes for $19. Haven't been to Vivace yet, but it's been packed the 4 or so times we've been to Coquette. Vivace is on my "to try" list.
And I think the portions are right on. They aren't overwhelming and too huge, like I think most places serve.
I've been to Vivace twice, and I think it's overrated. Plus, it was loud, and the staff were rather snotty and condescending.
