I was wondering if anyone could tell me if Raleigh has a Zoo/Aquarium in the area or surrounding area?
Also any tips on hotels to stay in that are reasonable? I have 4 kids so Iam looking for a pool.
Thank you

The zoo is in Ashboro.
There are museums in downtown Raleigh and the life and science museum in Durham. If your kids are younger, there is a Marbles Museum downtown Raleigh.
If you are staying in North Raleigh, there is an Embassy Suites on Glenwood that has a pool and a few hotels on Summit Drive that I have had clients stay that have had nice things to say about them. You'd have to ask but I think many of those have pools and free breakfast!
There is Pullen Park with it's train that many people enjoy, especially kids.
There are many other parks in the area if you like walking and many have playgrounds.
There IS quite a lot to do but it is early for me and that is all I can come up with off the top of my head!

The Zoo is an easy day trip from Raleigh but it's not in any of the major cities in NC. Start with the link above.
BTW, Raleigh (and the Triangle for that matter) is a terrific place to live but it's not really a tourist destination. I am curious as to why you are bringing your family to town for a vacation?

Visiting for vacation because my Father has retired in New Bern North Carolina, and although I love to see him there is absolutly nothing for my children to do there, I have ages 16 mths, 4 yr, 11, and 13. So I deceided to do both visit and try to tour some and get out. So there you have it.

If you don't want to go all the way to the zoo in Ashboro, check out the Carnivore Preservation Trust in Pittsboro. Very cool place!!

Is there a reason you don't want to go to the beach? My dad is in New Bern and we visit him and then go to the beach.
Also, some of the things we've done in New Bern include:
* Visit the Cow Cafe. My kids can spend hours there.
* Rent a pontoon boat and cruise the river.
* Visit Tryon Palace.
* Visit the Fireman's Museum.
You can go the the aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores (45 min - 1 hour away). You can go see the wild horses at Shackleford Banks. You can go charter fishing or kayaking out of Morehead City.
Nothing against the Triangle, I'm from here and I like it. But if I were looking for an add-on to a trip to New Bern I'd go east, not west.
If you want to check out Raleigh for other reasons, some previous threads have good lists of things to do with kids. //www.city-data.com/forum/ralei...ttle-kids.html

Get a membership: NC Zoo Society: Benefits (http://www.nczoo.com/join/individual_family_benefits - broken link) It will pay for itself and is good for the zoo and aquariums.
Quote:
N.C. Zoo Society members enjoy FREE admission to the N.C. Zoo 364 days a year. (The Zoo is open every day but Christmas Day.) And, members gain free or discounted admission to more than 150 zoos and aquariums across America--including three North Carolina aquariums.

Just keep in mind the zoo can be hot this time of year.
