I am formulating my plans for my sprawling country estate's landscaping. What do you feel are the best places to purchase plants, shrubs, trees, etc in the western and southern half of Wake County or very northern part of Johnston County? Best variety and price.

Broadwell's in Angier gets high marks if you know what you are looking for. It's been discussed here before-a search will help.

Fairview on HS Road is a beautiful place with great plants. They are very proud of their stuff ($$$) but for things like hanging baskets there's nowhere better.

I have a gardener/landscaper in the Middle Creek High School area that does very good work and is very reasonable. You can work alongside him or let him do it all. PM me if you would like his contact info.

DeWayne's Home and Garden Showplace in Selma (it's actually just down the street from the Smithfield Outlets) is one of my FAVORITES! They have plants/trees you won't find elsewhere and have a lot of fountains etc. Although they may be a little pricey you can still find some good deals. Even if I don't buy anything I still enjoy the trip down there from North Raleigh! It's definitely worth the visit!

Fairview Nursery in (Cary, Apex, HS? not sure which one as the towns all intermingle) looks wonderful. Any experience with them?

If you want to save a ton of money head to Broadwell's or Old Stage Nursery (across the road from one another) in Angier. Prices that are fraction of retail - i.e., 10-20% of what you'd pay at retail (of, not off).

Great for showcase plants/baskets, but pricey.
I wouldn't buy shrubs or trees there.

We are thinking of checking this out today. Gotta check the directions from 401/55 area.
