Better check around. Hotwire has an offer for 28.95/day + taxes for an economy. Compact is 32.95.

I agree. Which companies did you get rates from?

Yesterday I reserved a rental via Priceline for the week of 6/30-7/5 for under $200, but in the days prior to that, I was getting quotes near $300. I'm glad I held out. It's National at RDU. I hope you can find a good deal!

Rent from an agency that has an office outside of RDU, if possible. Enterprise for example, has neighborhood offices.

Rental car rates are inordinately high at RDU - I believe it is because the majority of rentals are on corporate accounts, and thus they can command a higher price.

You took the words right out of my mouth! You can try Priceline too.

I'll echo the recommendations for Priceline. A week or so ago, I rented an SUV for a day from RDU for $35 (after taxes it was $50) by using their bidding process. That's about half of what other companies wanted.

I second the Enterprise option. That's what we always did and it was way cheaper. It's not at the airport so you avoid all the (very high) airport fees you have to pay all the other places.
