Thanks for the tips everyone. Here are some pictures from my brief trip up to Lake Gaston today. It took about an hour and a half from my house in North Raleigh. Went right up route 1 and then took 158. I saw some real nice farmland and older houses along the way. It was interesting to learn that just about all the land around lake gaston is privae property with homes all along the lake. There are no public parks and only a handful of public boat ramps. Most boat access is through private docks or marinas. It was very green and rural with little commercial development, although I did see a lot of land for sale. The people we visited have a beautiful home along the water. It was a real treat to check it out. Here are a few pictures from the trip.
