Hi - I am going to be driving from Raleigh to NYC (leaving Raleigh around 9pm) and am trying to see how far north I can get before stopping for the night and finishing the drive the next day. Where have people stopped? I am thinking about trying to make it to the southern part of Richmond.

Thanks!

I can easily make it to NYC in a day. Even by myself, frequent stops and hitting traffic, I still find it an easy drive to do in a day.

How many hours are you comfortable driving?

I'd say either Richmond or outside of DC depending on when you want to stop.

Lots of motels around Fredricksburg, but they tend to fill up.
When are you going?
4th of July weekend? (Ouch....)

What dates are you traveling? Might make a huge difference for traffic!

Fredericksburg has many hotels and places to eat. You would get there about 1 A. M.
Richmond would not be a choice for me. If you want to stop sooner, I think there are hotels in the Dinwiddie area.

That's where I would stay. Especially since I can stay with my bro and that was my plan whenever I make my first visit to NYC.

Oops, I totally missed that you were starting at 9pm. Apparently reading comprehension is not my strong suit

I agree with Fredericksburg being the best place to stop if you only want to do a few hours.
