I've used Morning Dove as a run through between SF and FoN for-ever. What is up with the new road work? How does a project like that get decided on? Who pays? I ride on a whole lot of of other roads in NRal in terrible shape that could use resurfacing -- but this the work on MD is plain, all-out re-SCULPTing! Anyone in the know?

I guess no one knows who's spending the money or why.

Traffic calming project....to slow down cut thru traffic from Six Forks to Falls of Neuse. Raleigh does not allow speed bumps/humps. Raleigh PD now needs to enforce the no parking of on street parking at certain locations along MD. Personally I think a head on collision is waiting to happen on MD.

It seems like a smart move since the area you cut through is pretty residential. What's wrong w/ Newton rd or Strickland or Sandy Forks?

What do you mean Raleigh doesn't allow speed bumps/humps?

We have them all throughout the Brentwood subdivision. Helps make it the nice neighborhood that it is.

Yes you have them and they have been in Brentwood for years. City of Raleigh no longer allows them, says they cause damage to emergency vehicles. Speed humps were discussed during the initial traffic calming for MD, but were shot down, thus the current traffic calming design.

BTW: JWPublic: I do not use MD as a cut thru. I use it to get to my home since I live in the neighborhood.

I would love to have had speed bumps on MD instead of what is there.

Sorry I guess I should have mentioned that was directed to the original poster...who said they use your neighborhood as a cut through.

Huh, so that's what traffic calming looks like?

I thought they were building an SCCA Solo II autocross course until I noticed the lack of a timer ...

While speeding in residential areas is a problem, I'm not sure how that mess actually fixes the problem. Not to mention the problems noted by the author of the letter Mike linked to.
