All I'm looking for is a lake with a nice sandy beach area for kids to splash around in, maybe a place to rent a paddle boat or canoe, a vendor for some crappy concessions, a few picnic tables, which is located in the Triangle. Does this place exist?

It's in Wake Forest, but someone recommended Sandling Beach at Falls Lake to me. I went last week and loved it. It's a good ways past the Falls Lake sign on the left. You can't rent boats at the same place you can swim, but the kids I saw there had plenty of fun just playing around in the water. I can't remember if there are concessions, but there are picnic tables. I'm too cheap to buy food, so I just packed a cooler of my own snacks and it worked out well. Lake Wheeler does boats; really cheap for either paddleboating, jon boats, or canoes.

Cool thanks. I always thought Falls Lake is not a lake that you could or would want to swim in, but we will check it out. Lake Wheeler sounds exactly what I'm looking for.

There are several different beach/swimming areas at Falls Lake. I used to take my kids there frequently when they were younger.

There are beach areas on Falls Lake, but seems like they are often being closed because of bacteria levels. Falls lake has become more and more polluted over the years. If I had young kids now I would hesitate to let them swim there.

You might check out Silver Lake on Tryon Road.
