went to the the farmer's market in cary, bought some pastries and lemonade and had them in this nice gazebo... then we said, what the heck, let's go on down to fuquay-varina and check it out. we did, and i had read the little history of its name and its spring on wikipedia, so that was nice...

it's a cute little old-fashioned "main street" type of downtown, and the little park with the "spring" is pretty. we tried the water that made it famous, and it seemed rusty/bitter and was dribbling out of a pipe into the nearby stream. i felt like it should've been in a fountain at least, if that's really the reason the town exists. anyways, there wasn't much going on really, and everything was very peaceful. we met another young couple doing the same thing as us, just exploring and trying the water.

then we went back home, but the road was blocked in Apex, so we got out to walk around and saw their cool downtown festival thing going on. little-kid bicycle parade and all the people out playing on little rides and walking around. gorgeous day for it.

so we really enjoyed our trip getting to explore the towns to our south.

but, NRG, i forgot to bring my camera.
oops!

There are 2 downtown areas. One is very small and one is quite large. There are parts of Fuquay-Varina that are very run down and other areas that are upscale. Million dollar homes next to not much more than an outhouse. The area is still growing and is adding better things as times go by.
