Does anyone know where I can get cheap flights to London. We left it till the last minute to book our trip and all of a sudden the flights are all almost $1,000 each round trip. Exorbitant when there are five of us traveling. Anyone know of any sites where I might find a great deal?
you've just missed sub 1000 non stop deals by a couple of weeks mate, but I booked using jetcombo.com for the best prices I could find. DD and I are going ahead of DH and already booked our tickets, but he's stuck paying the whammy, and we watched them shoot up suddenly.
Good luck, I don't know what your dates are but there's some decent one stop deals still to be had via that site.

Thanks I'll check that out. I can't believe how they suddenly shot up. We are real procrastinators and kept putting off booking the flights. If I didn't need to visit family I'd spend a lot less money on a trip elsewhere.
Could you leave from an alternate airport like Washington DC? The savings may be worth the hassle if you could find long term parking at an alternate airport.
sent you a friend request with some info that i think would be helpful, but possibly not allowed here. if you will PM me back, i can send it along to you.
I second the recommendation for kayak.com, and I would also add vayama.com and priceline.com (especially the "Name Your Own Price" option) as another possibility. In terms of other airports, I'd look at Greensboro (GSO), Charlotte (CLT), and Richmond (RIC).
The only other tips I have would be to move your departure/return dates to see if there's a difference in pricing. Unlike domestic travel, there's no real rhyme or reason to days for cheaper fares, so you just have to approach it by trial and error.
Finally, if you're a AAA member, you may want to give them a call and see if they can help.
Traveling in the summer to Europe in the peak of the season is always super expensive. I agree with the OP traveling to DC and catching a flight there might be cheaper. Virgin Atlantic flies out of Dulles. Another idea is to fly to NY on jet blue and fly to europe through Newark or JFK. Sometimes you can get better deals on flights from NY or Boston since there is more competition than RDU. I know Icelandair has usually good rates, plus you can get a layover in Iceland if you want. For July, they have fares around $859 to $1,000 with tax from NY. But flying to NYC would deplete any savings as you would have to buy an air ticket to get out there. Some Asian/Middle Eastern airlines stop in European cities, before heading to their destinations. From the Heathrow website, Air India and Kuwait airlines also fly there from JFK and might be cheaper. If you want to save $ it may be an option, if it's cheaper. During peak season most london flights are going to be close to the 1,000 mark. I would start calling discount travel agents
Just call American Airlines. They have a nonstop flight. After they tell you what the price would be haggle it down. That flight is never booked. If you don't get any with the person you are talking to ask for the supervisor. It might take a little negotiating but companies especially in today's market are always willing to bargain.
I do know Clark Howard swears by this site if you can't get anywhere with AA's call center: http://www.mobissimo.com/search_airfare.php
