Hi,

We considering moving back to the Raleigh area, but it's important to us to be able to attend a Latin Mass, be it Tridentine or the Low Mass. I have searched some Mass listings, but am having trouble pinpointing the parishes that have the Latin Mass on a weekly basis. We prefer not to attend a SPX Mass- at least until they are fully received back into the Church. Any suggestions on where to look?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what Tridentine, Low Mass, and SPX mass mean... and I'm not sure if you're looking for Roman Catholic mass (as opposed to another rite) but call the Sacred Heart Cathedral. I'm almost positive they have a latin mass once a week, but I don't believe it's listed on their bulletin. Good luck!

that's neat. as a recovered catholic, i always thought it'd be cool to see a whole mass in latin, just for the historical factor. i saw one in french once, and that was neat too...

I saw it in Rome a few years ago and, while it was really awesome, I'm sticking with English.

I don't think there's anywhere that has a weekly Latin mass, but not sure. If Sacred Heart doesn't, then I don't know who else would.

I found the info below at this website: LatinMassNetwork (http://www.latinmassnetwork.net/2007/12/new-masses-in-north-carolina-d.html - broken link)

Sacred Heart Cathedral
200 Hillsborough St
Raleigh, NC 27603

Beginning on the Feast of the Epiphany, January 6, 2008 the Traditional Latin Mass will be said on the First Sunday of the Month at 4:30 PM.

Call 919-832-6030 or check the parish website at Welcome to Sacred Heart Cathedral for more information.

Sounds like a good thing.
best,
toodie

The weekly latin mass is held at a church in Dunn (Sacred Heart?).

The cathedral in Raleigh has it monthly.

By "low mass" (actually a spoken mass), do you mean the Novus Ordo (rite of Paul VI)? Tridentine is properly called "the Extraordinary Form", and of course can be celebrated with various ceremonial, whether as a low mass or a solemn high mass. This is equally true of the Ordinary Form (Novus Ordo), which can be done with the full ceremonial authorised by the GIRM (General Instruction on the Roman Missal). If you want good RC liturgy, you'd better stick to places like NYC and Philly!

Sacred Heart Cathedral has one on the first Sunday of the month at 4:30. It is a Low Tridentine Mass (Missal of 1962). I've heard rumours of it possibily being offered every week in a couple of months.

There is a weekly one offered in Dunn, NC about an hour east of Raleigh (the Church there is also called Sacred Heart).

DUNN
Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Location: US Hwy 421 and McKay Ave -Dunn, NC 28334
Mass Time: Sun 12 pm - Tue 9 am (usually) – Wed 6 pm – Thu/Fri 9 am - 1st sat 10 am - Holy Days of Obligation 12:15 pm or 6:30 pm
Phone number: (910) 891-1972
Web site: http://www.sacredheartdunnnc.org
Priest: Fr Paul Parkerson

There is a weekday Tridentine Mass (Low, 1962) offered in
FUQUAY VARINA by the same priest who usually offers the Mass at the Cathedral.

St Bernadette
Location: 1005 Wilbon Road – Fuquay Varina, NC 27526
Mass Time: Tue 9 am
Phone number: (919) 552-8758
Web site: http://www.st-bernadettechurch.org
Priest: Fr Mark Betti

Looks like there is a Tridentine Mass offered in Rocky Mount (not far from dunn, so about an hour east of raleigh) weekly at 6pm:

ROCKY MOUNT
Our Lady of Perpetual Help
Location: 328 Hammond Street – Rocky Mount, NC 27804
Mass Time: sun 6 pm – Sat 8 am
Phone number: (252) 972-0452
Web site: http://www.olphrm.com
Priest: Fr Tim Meares

There is also a very good Byzantine Catholic Church in Cary (SS. Cyril and Methodius).

Most places IME it is easier to find a Latin Novus Ordo mass than an Extraordinary Form (1962 Missal) mass. Well, thinking about it, maybe here in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Much less so in Texas, where I used to live. But the OP would apparently be happy with a Latin Novus Ordo -- anyplace do a good one with Gregorian chant? What about a religious community whose services are open to the public?

^ I don't know if they still do this but St. Joseph in Raleigh used to do a latin Novus Ordo on the first Saturday of every month at 8am.
