That's no big deal either as long as your doors aren't falling off or something.
The inspection cost me $10 for a 2004 vehicle and was done in 10 minutes.
They give you a window sticker.
Inspections in emissions counties (like Wake) usually cost $30, but stations have the option of charging less. They also no longer give window stickers - it's a completely electronic system now.

Just want to mention that now Wake County DMV offices do not issue an actual license or ID card. You get your photo taken, but then recieve a certificate valid for 20 days. Your actual card will be mailed out to you.

Thank you all so much for all your replies. We will definately study. I printed the driver's manual off the NC DMV's website. I heard that Louisburg is worth going to as they have not much of a wait. Will call the offices in NE and N Raleigh and see if i can make an appointment, otherwise i think we will head to Fuquay Varina. Thanks!!

Default correcting a misstated list on here

you need to get inspection BEFORE plates now -- they won't issue plates until inspection is electronically entered -- just went through this with one car, and now registering a newly purchased car that the dealer has inspected and now they are waiting to get my plates from DMV so I can pick them up from them. You need to have insurance as well before the plates with the minimum coverage required.

FV is almost always maximum 2 or 3 people in line, some are just renewing or getting a license reissued due to a change of address. 2 Tests given - sign test and written test - study and use your common sense and read the QUESTION, picture yourself driving in that situation and apply the common sense and you should easily pass - then study about DWI percentages etc and how to appeal - piece of cake.
