I have reached a brick wall trying to find out the variety of yellow daylillies planted on MLK Jr. Drive in Chapel Hill. Who should I call and more importantly how can I get some of the same? They are all finished now but for the whole month of June and a few days in July they were so robust and beautiful. I know they are not Stell D"Oro which is more golden and usually shorter. I see those planted alot in commercial landscapes and I have all of that I need or want.

Thanks Frank. I don't think of daylillies as wildflowers but I sent them a note and maybe they can tell me.

According to NC DOT they use a bunch of different varieties. It's under the plant list for "shrubs" for whatever reason. http://www.ncdot.org/doh/operations/...st/Shrubs.html Hemerocallis-Daylily (thousands of varieties available)- D to E, G, FL

According to the NC DOT web site, the landscaping supervisor is Bob Kopetsky, (919)733-2920 ex 53.

The lillies were grown by prisoners at the Caledonia Prison Work Farm.

I suggest a trip to Lakeview Daylily Farm (Weston Farms) in Garner: Welcome to Lakeview Daylily Farms, Garner, North Carolina He was a horticulturist with the City of Raleigh for 30 years and now cultivates and sells daylilies. He'll probably know what they are. His plants are beautiful and reasonably priced.
