UNC dental school can do it. Ive never really heard anything bad about them, nor good. They're still students so take it how you will. You're paying $1.5-2K for a reason when you goto an Oral Surgeon.

She is a teacher in Durham, so she is on the State health care plan. I checked, and of course, they do not cover oral surgery extractions. Can anyone else 100% confirm this too before we bite the $1,200 bullet?

I regret booking a 2 week trip to Italy in September now (not really but its gonna be tough for a bit.

I had mine done at UNC dental school (not by a student). It was Dr. Blakey. Antiquated setting but superior work. And affordable. Look into UNC. UNC Dental Faculty Practice

huckdisc, how much did it cost, and did you get IV sedation as well (that is $400 bones). Also, can you use your dental insurance if you get work done at the UNC dental school?

I know this post is old, but I found it when I was trying to get an estimate of what to pay recently. So here's the breakdown for others who might be coming across this post 2 years later:

My cost for wisdom teeth with two simple extractions and two partial bony extractions and an hour of IV sedation is $1700. Insurance pays $800 of the total cost. Here's the breakdown:

Simple extractions: $250 each (x2)
Partial bony (impacted) extractions: $350 each (x2)
First 30 minutes of sedation: $300
Each additional 15 minutes: $100 each (x2)

Procedure will be done at an oral surgeon's in south Durham.

Default 4 wisdom teeth extractions

My son has an appt. at UNC dental school in Chapel Hill in a few weeks to have all 4 of his wisdom teeth extracted, two have come in sideways. I was given a quote of $1100, don't have any dental insurance so we have to pay this amt. up front beforehand. That is also where he got his braces years ago at a better price than at dental offices in the Triangle.

To the people who have had this done, did you only do local anesthesia or sedation? I have two, one is partial boney, and the other is not. With this being said I HATE the dentist. I'm going in for a cleaning in a week, then will schedule these two to be removed.

Local. Painless. If you feel any pain, tell the dentist. He/she will "reinforce" the anesthesia.

Local anesthesia vs. sedation is going to be dependent on the difficulty of the extractions. If they are uprig and fully erupted its no different than extracting any other tooth. If they are impacted you really want to be sedated for the most part. Well at least I would want to be.

Each case would be different...depends on if teeth are impacted ...if bone needs to be removed...if bone needs to be put back....its not like buying an item...its a surgery
