I bought one huge rug and a runner that match years ago at Sam's and I had them in my apartment in college and then after but I got sick and they need to be cleaned and I am asking for advise because nothing seems to help with website because they only talk about vacuuming. I would like to know the best cleaners and not necessarily cheapest but cheaper as well. Asking for help, please and thank you.

There should be a consumer tag on the back of it to tell you what it's made of. The type of material is important because it may not be able to be dry cleaned. I have a steam cleaner for all kinds of random spills (I think all parents should get one at their baby showers ;-) but all my area rugs are natural fibers.

Maybe you can call around for estimates on cleaning it. I found that many companies won't come out unless there is an X room minimum. I also have never been in love with the cleaning job whenever I have hired a professional.

Pet urine is really hard to remove. At most, they can try to neutralize the odor (typically with vinegar) but the underlying scent is always there. You can try renting a machine and cleaning it to see if you like the results. If not, you may have to replace the rug.

Dog Urine

I have never purchased from this place, but have considered it. I will probably try them the next time I'm in the market for a rug. It seems like the local big box stores are very limited in styles and sizes and I like having more options.

Area Rugs

Good luck.
