There are actually 2 big beer festivals here in the triangle. The first, which occurs in the spring, is in Raleigh. The second, which occurs in the fall, is in Durham. They are organized by a beer-themed magazine which is HQ'ed here in the triangle called "All About Beer". Here is their website:
Tickets are $30 each (I know, pretty steep, so you have to REALLY like beer) and it gets you unlimited samples from dozens and dozens of breweries. I went to the Durham festival last fall and had some really amazing beers brewed by some very talented brewers that are pushing the envelope with their craft.
The Triangle has so much going on (as long as you explore the whole metropolitan area). Cary has two arts and crafts fairs (one next weekend at Bond Park). Raleigh has the State Fair and a Renaissance Festival complete with a depiction of Kingston-upon-Hull. Durham has a documentary film festival and a dance festival. It looks like the Chapel Hill Apple Chill has been killed though. http://www.newsobserver.com/114/story/432485.html (broken link)
Still, there are many more events than I have mentioned. Which other fairs and festivals do people here like?

I guess I REALLY do! I've been a few times and always have a great time. I go with my wife, as I really can't drive after all those tasty samples!
