We just moved to SW Durham, Hope Valley Farms. It seems that the pool club in the neighborhood is pretty empty. I am a new mom, looking to meet people, and I would love to find a pool club that is busy and fun, and that also has a baby pool. Are there any nice clubs in Durham or Chapel Hill that I could join? I appreciate your suggestions!

The Woodcroft club is nearby and seems always to be packed.

I have friends that live in HVF and have never heard them comment on the pool being dead?

Unless you are looking for more of a high-end country club type environment, in which case you may want to look into something like Chapel Hill Country Club.

August is traditionally the slowest months for pool usage... vacations and such.

Good to know. We went to the HVF club today, and there was only one family there. We put our daughter in a swing and she hung out there for about 20 minutes, and then we left. I also popped by Woodcroft, and it was actually crowded today. I think HVF may not normally be "dead", but I think the Woodcroft club is more active. The Woodcroft club also had slightly lower fees and a larger pool. I think they also do more activities for their members. Not sure which is "better" - guess that depends on personal preferences.

You might join trianglemommies.com (it's free but you need to register). They have a bunch of activities where you and your little one can meet people. They have area groups, so some activities will specifically take place in SW Durham for the moms/children that live there. Check out their calendar and forums.
