In a news report I just viewed, they happened to mention the majority of Raleigh residents rent, rather than own. I found that strange, as I made the "assumption" the majority would have owned. Assuming is never a good thing. Does anyone know if this information about more renters than owners is true and is there any up-to-date figures for such a thing for Raleigh and all the towns nearby?

I don't have any numbers, but that makes sense to me. Raleigh is surrounded by bedroom communities where people own and don't rent and they all commute in.

I guess if you also consider the NCSU students and number of apartments available (compared to other areas) it could be true. But that sort of skews the the rest of the areas who don't have large/er dowtowns with lots of apartments, rental properties and also students. Can you post a link to the article?

There are a lot of apartments around this area, for sure. When I moved here from out of state, I was glad for that.

I don't know how current this data is but just found:

"The mix of housing opportunities also is accommodating with 51.6 percent of the housing stock owner-occupied and 48.4 percent renter-occupied."

Call me a statistic... We're renting because we don't plan to settle in Raleigh (or NC for that matter).. As a renter, I'm glad to hear about those stats..

As a 20 year Raleigh renter, I love the well priced selection of apartments here.
