My husband is also in commercial construction and looking. It seems that there are jobs that pop up here and there. I've seen lots of ground up job postings. Not quite as strong as it is here in Phoenix or in Denver, though.

My husband was/is in concrete ready mix work on LI but the work is so slow that we up and moved to Raleigh almost 2 years ago. My husband's business associate moved here with us and is going to open up a ready mix plant. We are waiting for permits. They are certainly building around here both residential and commercial. Just in today's News and Observer you may read

These articles are about the commercial construction business and mention some large future projects and construction outfits. I would contact them directly. I am also a relocation agent and could send you out a relocation kit that has maps, area and school guides, parent magazines and real estate magazines. If you would like this, just pm me with your address.
Good luck, Long Island is just so done. We have been there and done that. My husband is able to get permits to develop and the towns work harder for you- It is not the land of NO.
