If you wonder why an agent wants to meet at the office, safety is one primary concern. It isn't to always give you a sales pitch.

Real estate agent raped in Cary home :: WRAL.com

I feel so bad for her, and don't even know who it is.

Sickening!

I believe that she is actually a DR Horton sales agent. I do not know if one need's a real estate license or not to be one?

My mom seriously considered becoming a realtor after my siblings and I left for college. She would have been good at it I believe. However, my dad, brothers and I begged her not to because we were very concerned about unsafe scenarios.

Why wasn't this guy in jail? He had quite a assault history.

Is DR Horton culpable in any way for not having safety measures in place except for showing ID, which may or may not be false?

Hope she is doing ok, physically and emotionally. I know that we were shocked at how brazen this Moderator cut: language was.

I feel so bad for her too. I also read the article as she was doing on-site sales, and I wonder if this will lead to a change in procedures for local subdivisions.

I feel terrible for this woman.

I have always felt UNSAFE doing Open Houses. Onsite Agents stay in the model home, mostly alone. Seems very unsafe to me. I don't know an alternative. Even if one Agent were in the model home and another was out showing a vacant home, some crazy person could attack.

As a female, you can't be too cautious. I want to know the same thing the above poster asked...with the history this guy has, why wasn't he in jail???

Vicki

I just heard this on the news - very scary situation... The guy is in jail now. I don't know what you can do in a situation like that except carry mase, etc. Someone who seeks to do you harm, will do it - only thing you can do is be very observant.

They need a security guard/escort for the agent, to accompany on showings, & security cameras for each model in the future. No female agent should be alone.

Our apartment community requires that the ID be left in the office while the agent is out showing a unit.

I got tears in my eyes reading about this! Was wondering aloud to my fiance very recently about safety procedures for female agents doing showings. It seemed to me that they would be very vulnerable to an opportunistic monster like the rapist in Cary.

I agree w/ lottamoxie about the cameras in model homes. As for showing other homes, having a partner along would be best, but I can understand how that would be difficult to arrange for every showing. Mike and Vicki, just out of curiosity, are agents given a particular safety protocol to follow, or does is vary from place to place?
