My husband and I are going to be relocating to NC at the end of the year and are looking to rent an apartment in Chapel Hill, Carrboro or South Durham. We are looking to rent a 2 bedroom apartment for around $800 and are looking for a 6 month lease. We are both in our 30's, work full-time, no kids. We would prefer to live in a complex that is not full of students, but we realize with the low price point, we may have to compromise (plus this rental isn't an extended stay). Can anyone recommend apartment complexes, real estate companies or websites to start this process? Thank you

I know you said South Durham, but in West Durham check out Colonial Village at Deerfield. It's right in Duke Forest, quiet, and is mostly grad students and professionals. I really liked it when I lived there. It's at least worth checking out and seeing if you like the location/commute.

I'm sorry I don't have names of apartment complexes for you, just some thoughts instead. Because you are planning to come at the end of the year, you can check with UNC housing (don't know their number) for students who are graduating and wanting to sublet their place or someone to take over their lease, --- or put an ad on Craigslist, or even search Craigslist, and look for sublets. You may find students who are graduating at the end of the Fall semester and want to rent their place (sublet it).

Most complexes still require a minimum 1-year lease. You have much more flexibility with a private owner. I am sure you could find a small 2-bdrm house for that amount, and with the economy and housing market the way it still is, you have more room to negotiate. I see lots of places for rent still, and I live in Chapel Hill.
Good luck!

Check out this gated apartment complex in the Southpoint area .... you do not get much closer than this unless you are directly across the street from the Mall and where this is you can practically see the Mall anyway .... Berkeley Southpoint

Cheers!
