I flew out of RDU at 6AM that morning. Didn't really know what was happening until I arrived at my destination and checked vmail - had a rather frantic vmail from my bride.
Drove back to RTP with a group of coworkers in a rental car a few days later. Very sad day, we should never forget.

Thank you for this. I will never forget the horror of that day and the days, months following it. I worked at a local university, we lost some of our alumni, one a early-mid career doctor went down on the plane in Shanksville. He was a family man, like many on board. I will never forget his name. In the days, wks, months afterwards I was to hear first hand stories from people who were there, docs who prepared for the wounded but none came. I will be forever impacted. I also remember how the day started out, what a beautiful day it was here, so sunny and the sky was beautiful. i had a terrible feeling of foreboding that morning but couldn't explain why. It was the strongest one I've ever had. Yes, let's never forget! And remember in our prayers all who were touched by it.
