I apoligize if this has already been discussed. I'm a huge "Live Music" fan so anytime a new venue opens in the Triangle I'm exicited. I scored tickets today to Alice Cooper, Steve Miller Band and Roger Daltrey(of The Who) and will be getting tickets to Jackson Browne when they go on sale. Their all playing the relatively new "DPAC" in downtown Durham. I haven't been their yet myself but several friends have and they say it's an incredible place to see someone. It holds 2,800 and it's design so there's not a bad seat in the house. Anyone else been their yet?....here's their website.
BTW: Saw "Mike Gorden Band" (Bass player from Phish) last nite at the Lincoln Theatre in Downtown Raleigh. The Lincoln Theatre holds around 750 and is a great small venue.
the wife and i saw 'Fiddler on the Roof' there a few months back. it's a nice venue for sure. we were several balconies up but i still had no issue seeing everything and the acoustics were great. i also appreciated the generous sized seats and legroom, which i found to be on par with a lot of the newer stadium-style movie theaters.
the location itself is convenient enough and there's a few restaurants in the American Tobacco Campus across the street that make for great places to grab a bite before the show.
we're going to see Brian Regan later this month with a bunch of friends at the DPAC. can't wait!
Glad to hear some good reports about the acoustics. I went to see Morrissey at DPAC in March, sat in the balcony, and felt like I wasted the $80 I spent for tickets since I could barely hear him the whole time. It wasn't Morrissey's fault, either, since when I went to the restroom I could hear him quite plainly over the speakers. Perhaps this is an acoustics issue that has been fixed.
I also attended the American Dance Festival there over the summer and didn't experience any acoustics issues, although that was mainly a dance performance so I wouldn't have minded anyway.
