If the house is what you want-location, layout, ect...and you can afford to do any needed work, then I think you should go for it! If your quality of life is going to be what you want, then I wouldn't let the age of the house bother you.
The price and details Mike llisted below look WONDERFUL to my connecticut eyes! Wow, that's a lot of house for the $. I'm not into split-levels myself, but some folks love them. Seems like those 60's -70's places have some potential, especially if you're willing to update them.
I would love to own an older home as long as the structural integrity is still good, I'm scared of termites. I wouldn't mind updating the floors and putting in hardwood floors myself, or updating the bathrooms and kitchen myself--that way I could get the exact style that I like!
