Have a cousin who is considering moving to the area as well and curious what other fields are strong in the Raleigh area - other than IT.

He's currently in insurance. Any possibilities

Hi Theresa,

Ironically, my husband is in IT--hardware, not software--and I was concerned that there were no jobs for him!

Fidelity Investments is expanding and growing in the area. They plan to add thousands of jobs over the next 4 years. I don't know if your husband has security licenses but this may be an option

I see lots in pharmaceutical and biochemical research. Not quite a cross over career from IT though.

Default Job Market: what else is strong other than IT

Actually, my cousin is not looking for IT. His current line of work is Insurance. Is there any job market for that in the Raleigh area?

Accounting and finance are always strong and I'm not talking about a Fidelity service center.

I don't quite know what you mean by "insurance." That's a bit broad. Healthcare is obviously huge here--what with both Duke and UNC Health Systems. BCBS of NC is also located here. That said, there is a lot of opportunity for someone in the HEALTH insurance field.

I am HOPING teaching jobs will be in demand since I am teacher moving to the area.
With all of the talk of over-crowded schools and the huge influx of people moving to the state, I am assuming (good)teachers will be in demand.

I would say pharmaceutical, engineering, finance, health care, real estate, education/teaching, social services.

Also surgical equipment. Insurance and Finance/Banking are generally based more in Charlotte.
