I planted 6 1 gallon Knockouts in May. Full Sun. Other than rainfall I have maybe watered them 3 times and hit them with the miracle-gro hose attachment thingy twice. They were maybe 6 inches tall when they went into the ground-they are now over 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide and covered with blooms. I don't prune them. I don't trim off old blooms. I just look at them and wonder how they grow the way they do.
All of my neighbors seem to have similar luck with them. I live around the corner from KellyCrash but I don't think it's my roses she is commenting on-they are doing well all over the neighborhood.
I have mine in an area that gets very little afternoon sun- pretty much full shade after about 2:00 and they are doing great. No water or food- nothing but pruning twice a year beacuse of the growth rate. Don't think you can go wrong with these.
I planted 3 double-knock out roses in early summer and they are huge and full of blooms right now. They've done really well, blooming throughout most of the summer. I did have a few weeks in mid - summer where Japanese Beetles were feasting all over them, but then they went away and the plants have recovered well and pretty quickly. Mine are in full sun, and I've never had to fertilize them and only hand watered them when first planted.
Overall, I'm quite pleased. They seem to be pretty low maintenance, although I'll certainly need to prune them down later in the fall and possibly move them to another location if they get much larger.
I have two of those, and they are doing well. Still blooming, and more buds on the way.
