This year will be my first time at the NC State Fair. Actually, I've never been to any state fair. I've heard stories about all the crazy fried food--deep fried pizza, fried hamburgers, and fried coke (still trying to figure this one out). I was hoping that previous attendees could enlighten me about all your favorite fair "delicacies" we should try out.

My wife is convinced that I plan on being like Templeton the Rat from "Charlotte's Web" when he goes to the fair and pigs out until he can't move. (Ok, she is right). But hey, the fair is only once a year! I figure the tummy ache will be worth it. Plus, I hear that there is a tram that can get me back to my car, once the gluttony sets in.

I like the corn, the gyros, the grilled chicken on a stick, the frech fries, and the fried dough and best ice cream from the NCSU dairy. I've never had much of a stomach for the really crazy fried stuff.

I love the deep fried Twinkies (yum!!!)
Also Al's french fries covered in vinegar....so yummy.
Fried Coke was 100% overrated...but I did enjoy the deep fried banana pudding.

Was anyone selling fried butter? I saw an article about this a week ago, and while it sounds artery-cloggingly awful, the people interviewed said it was actually delicious .....

I need to find a new favorite this year. It used to be the NCSU Dairy ice-cream, but now you can get that year round on campus at the library or student centers (and I do, oh do I ever, lol) under the "Howling Cow" brand. They're also opening another ice-cream "parlor" in a class building as well. So since I can get any of their flavors year round now in cone/cup/shake/sundae form, I can't consider it fair food unique. I need something to look forward to food wise every year.

Might have to do quite a bit of sampling fair food this year to determine a new contender.
