Any one from the bay area have advice for me and my family on moving to NC? I am tired of the grind here in California and want to give my kids a better quality of life. Is it cleaner, cheaper to live? Are the schools good? Any help would be nice.

There are many "transplants" here including myself (I was raised here, went to the SF area and worked for many years and then came back); there are several threads on here about this transition; personally all I can say is that I really miss Monterey, "The City"; driving to Tahoe; and there is nothing here that even comes close to those settings; if I was going to "off the cuff" comment I would say that the positives are: you will love the low crime rates and cheap real estate; the negatives are: you will be bored for some period and you will be suprised at the difference between what you (as a Californian) "expect" "people living in southern metro areas" (BIG mix of southerners and people from the North East) will be like and what they really are like.
