I will be back in the area over the next couple of days and was wondering if they started to change the traffic pattern around Rt 98, Thompson Mill Road, and Old 98 yet? Need to drive a moving truck through that area so I would like to know what I may encounter or should I avoid that area at all cost?

Me and a rental moving truck is like me using skis. Both will move forward, slide and slalom and eventually reach where we are going after dusting ourselves off a few times!

Nope, they haven't started shifting any traffic patterns yet. They're still in the process of paving some of the sections so it looks like it's coming soon, but I'd guess it will be at least another month or two (if not more). They are making good progress though, and we can't wait for them to be done!

A bit more info.

They have placed stop signs at the corner of Thompson Mill and Old 98, but they are covered.

They have hung new stoplights at the corner of Thompson Mill and Hwy 98, but have not activated or uncovered them yet.

There are covered detour signs on Hwy 98 as well.

Still paving though.

Here is a list of the temporary closings, but it doesn't have dates. http://www.wakeforestnc.gov/client_resources/2008pressreleases/nc98construction_factsheet.pdf (broken link)

The section of Old 98 from Thompson Mill to Crenshaw Manor(Jones Wynd) was supposed to be closed starting last Monday, but as of yet it is not. All the detour signs are up so it could be closed any time.

Thanks all! Made it through the area on Monday with no problems. They were paving some of the new sections and Old 98 @ Thompson Mill going East was closed but detour to Thompson Mill to Rt 98 so no problems and all temporary signs, cones, and other construction material was in tact after my passage as best I could tell so the trip was a success. With a little luck by the time I am in the area next summer the road work will be completed!
