We live in the Glenwood-Brooklyn neighborhood, and now I can't put off finding a veterinarian... My senior cat is not being herself (losing weight!) and needs a check-up. Obviously I want a good staff and facility, and need reasonable cost.

I've seen some other threads on the subject of finding a vet, but haven't seen anyone mention this place.

Any thoughts and your own recs are appreciated greatly

I have been going to HBAH for over 20 years and can't imagine going anywhere else. They have a loyal following. They were great in dealing with my senior cat and dog a couple of years ago. I remember well finally having to make the decision to put down my dog, and having the vet and all the techs on the floor with me and her crying.

Regarding costs, particularly for senior animals, know that they will tell you what you "can" do. For instance, to determine what is going on, they often will need to run a senior blood panel, which is costly. In her last 7 or so years, my cat had thyroid cancer (radiation treatments), diabeties (shots), and kidney failure (dailiy saline treatments)....all of which were costly. It is up to you to decide what lengths you are willing to go. It did get very expensive, though. I never felt that they were trying to sell me anything, but if cost is an issue, make sure you understand how much everything is going to be up front.

Default Thanks VaNC for the detailed answer...

I realize care for a senior animal is potentially very costly and am prepared to make decisions about that. To get a general gauge though, can you tell me what a regular exam appointment costs? And the senior blood panel? That was a "for sure" item in my mind as well.
