For our 10th anniversary the wife and I went to Nana's of Durham. I had the tasting menu, and it was wonderful. Easilly the best $50 I've spent on food in awhile. It was 5 courses, let me see how bad my memory is this morning...
1. a terine of foie gras with strawberry pepper jam and baguette points
2. a seared scallop with gnocchi in a lobster sauce
3. a poached egg over cauliflour with bacon in a black truffle sauce
4. flank steak with speatzle and mushrooms
5. coconut soufle with a warm vanilla cream sauce.
Hey, not bad, wasn't sure I could do do that. Evidently the menu changes frequently, as the on-line menu lists different items for the tasting menu. My wife had a cast-iron seard duck breast; it was also excellent.
Dos Taquitos for Mexican. Most original and tasty Mexican experience!
Margaux's
Four Square
Bonne Soiree for an intimate and very upscale special occasion
And no one has mentioned my favorite French restaurant, St. Jacques. Best service I have ever experienced, from the moment you walk in where they greet you by name and take your coat.
For a nicely priced, tasty Italian meal, try the fairly new Carini in Cary Park.
I can't believe I forgot Mo's Diner in Raleigh. It's like they try to throw you off with the casual name and you would never think to look at the building that there was anything special inside. But there most definitely is...incredible cuisine in small dining areas with fireplaces and lace tablecloths. I've organized several Meetups there for my brunch/fine dining group.
I wanted to add Red Lotus in Chapel Hill to the list. Really great Chinese food, especially the items on their Shanghai menu. Their Americanized stuff is quite good too. And of course Super Wok in Cary.
