I am taking a friend from DC out this weekend in RDU. Anyone have any recommendations for a good, swanky, hip restaurant. He is very trendy and hip, and I want to find a place with great food, hot people, and a cosmopolitan vibe. He doesn't like seafood, but most other cuisines are cool, especially Thai, Mexican, and Italian.

Revolution in Durham leaps to mind. Otherwise, swanky is a bit of tough draw in the area. Having lived in DC for a number of years, I'm comparing it to the swanky, hip places there and coming up short. If you can settle for great food and hipster vibe without the swank, I recommend Poole's Diner. It just has a cool atmosphere, but one that is uniquely Raleigh. Mint might also work, but I feel that the food falls short and they try a little too hard for swanky, self-consciously so.

Actually, Vivace might also work. The food is pretty good, it has a bit of see and be see feel (although its in North Hills which doesn't exactly ooze hip).

Wait...Solas on Glenwood South in Raleigh. That's what you're looking for.

Solas is exactly what you are looking for and my only recommendation. Miami meets Raleigh.
