Hello,

My family and I are looking to relocate after I graduate with my MA in counseling. I am looking to either move to Charlotte or Raleigh. I still have to earn my hours before I can become fully licensed as a counselor. What area would be best for someone looking to work in the mental health field ? In addition, what agency would be able to provide me with paid supervision hours? Any information would be a help.

I'm working in the mental health field (new to it), and I would say the majority of mental health jobs I applied/interviewed for were in Durham. That's not to say they aren't also in Raleigh, but that was just the trend that I found. I did end up accepting a job in Raleigh. As for providing supervision, I only had two places out of probably 10 I interviewed with say they could provide it free, and the place I ended up accepting a job with doesn't..... bummer! I would just apply for any mental health job you see and ask that question at the interview. Craigslist non-profit and medical/health sections are good, as well as indeed.com. Also an FYI, mental health has taken lots of cuts here so it might be a little difficult. Good luck!

Keep looking on Craigslist. I have found that to be the best source. Although I was fully licensed when I moved here, I do see ads for company's taking provisionally licensed therapists. I have seen many good jobs posted for Raleigh and Durham both.
