I just heard the noise now in the Preston area. I honestly thought it was going to be a plane going over, but instead it was really short and a loud rumble. I wish we had a real answer instead of just a "possibility." I know its not fireworks because i have heard numerous times, this is more like a really loud rumble.
For the last couple of nights the noise has not occurred. This is what we know and suspect:
1) infamous noise occurs in the early evening 6pm beyond, fair fireworks starts at 8 or 9pm
2) the noise is a loud banging every few minutes, inconsistent and random
3) seems to be audible for miles
4) no one has seen any construction?
5) as mysterious as crop circles in the midwest
I'm out in Willow Spring - off Old Stage and 42 and I heard fireworks, or I think that is what it was, from about 9:57 to a little after 10PM last night. Constant booming and a very loud finale - I guess it was the fair, but it really carried. Amazing!

I totally forgot about the fair tonight and was wondering what the heck all the noise was! It does carry far! I think the weather has something to do with it as well - the trains have been pretty noisy as well.
