Don't let this become another U2 concert traffic thread. Do yourself a favor and plan ahead. People can get into the state fair for free Thursday if they bring 4 cans of food to donate. There is also a UNC vs. Florida State Football game that night. I imagine volume on I-40 will be quite high when people get off work!

Crap, so my commute home today - down Edwards Mill road to Wade Avenue, and then I-40 to Chapel Hill - is really going to suck. I knew I should have stayed home.

P.S. Duraleigh was already very backed up at 8:10 this morning around the Edwards Mill intersection - first time I've seen that since the fair started.

I'm getting ready to head out there. We will take 147 to 40, and then I guess some back roads if it looks pretty bad. Luckily we have parking very close to the fair since my boyfriends coworker lives right there!

Where do you think the major congestion will be?

I leave work at 4:30 p.m. and get on I-40 E at Hwy 147 S (exit 279A) and get off at Harrison (exit 287).

There don't seem to be any good alternative routes for me, as 54 is always a nightmare and 55 takes me too far West, dumping me out in terrible congestion as well. :-(

You know, I stood in my garage this morning debating whether to take the motorcycle and decided against it. I knew I should have listened to my gut instinct on this one. Crud!

Please don't tell me you are one of those motorcyclists who drive between the cars when there is a traffic jam just cause your on a bike. I am not trying to accuse you but your response opens it up and those types of bikers PO me because the motorcycle groups are always screaming to "be aware" of bikes on the road yet some (NOT ALL) abuse that.

Just a helpful link for those who may not have seen this yet:
NCDOT: Travel Information

I check this site every afternoon before going home or before traveling across Raleigh. It's saved me some trouble on a number of occasions for sure!

When I used to live in Cary off Harrison, I'd take Alexander to Page, then go south on Globe, then right on Aviation and follow that down to Evans. It can be backed up sometimes on Aviation crossing over Lake Crabtree, but it was usually a lot better than 54. This route works best if your office is north of 40, though.
