WUNC launched a new (replaces UNC-NC) channel, UNC-EX, this morning on 4.3 (over the air).

I like the new programming that focuses on travel shows but am disappointed they are broadcasting it in standard definition instead of high definition. Anybody know why they would do this or why they don't broadcast all their channels in HD?

They have just so much frequency spectrum allocated. They have a choice of making their digital broadcasts HD or offering multiple channels. You can't squeeze multiple HD channels into the space they have. It's the same with 5.1, 2, 3 - just 5.1 is HD.

Makes sense - Thanks.

Hopefully someday this will change.

Watching normally visually stunning HD shows like Art Wolfe's Travels to the Edge in standard definition is terrible.
