Most gas stations have a sign out front that states they refill propane tanks. The white propane tank on the premises is also an indicator.

Taylor's Wine Shop and BP on Six Forks fills tanks for $16.

If you are looking in Wake Forest, in addition to Holding oil, there's Little River, right next store. They both do refills, and are about $15 for the regular grill tank.

In Durham there is hardware store in Woodcroft shopping center (Triangle Hardware) that does it for just under $14.

Default Smaller capacity tank exchanges

I pulled into a CVS Drug Store the other day and parked right in front of their propane tank exchange rack. After reading every sign, sticker, and label on the rack I found what I wanted; the label advising customers that each 20 pound tank comes with 17 pounds of propane.

At least they are honest about it, but if it wasn't for this posting I wouldn't have tried to find the disclaimer.

Great post so timely.....just ran out of gas the other night and never got a tank refill here. So off to the refill center in Wake Forest so I can ignite my BBQ grill yet again! Thanks all for the good information! Points to all!

In plain view.
I like that.
I liked that too. I used to go to U-Haul on Capital near town.....I recently gave up the gas grills, and went back to wood and charcoal

Did you find a place to refill your propane tank? I am also looking a refill place in N.Raleigh- Strickland Rd/Six Forks area. Do not want to exchange my new tank.

See Sayantsi's reply above ... Six Folks and Mt Vernon (north of 540). I think the bridge is still out west of there on Mt Vernon so head north on Six Forks.

I refilled in North Durham at Carolane Propane for $16 last week. A true 20# of propane too (they put it on the scale).
